About us


The Academy has been in the forefront in providing large scale legal assistance and aid to the poor litigants through permanent legal aid clinics and massive area wise Lok adalaths and Neethimelas. The Academy works closely with the District and Taluk Legal Services Authorities in providing them the services of students and in providing the students exposure to settlement of cases and holding Lok Adalths. The activities of the Legal aid clinics also include identifying villages prone to litigations and adopting strategies to evolve litigation free villages and give the poor, access to justice through free legal aid, for which the legal services Center maintains a list of competent lawyers who are willingly to provide free legal service.

The Academy is involved in several activities on the academic side, apart from continuously holding the All-India Moot Court Competition and the National Client Interviewing and Counseling Competition Conferences, Seminars and Workshops on legal issues and subjects are a regular feature in the campus. The annual debate Competition for Colleges within the Kerala University in the memory of late. C. Kuttikrishnan and annual essay writing competitions for colleges within the University of Kerala were regularly held till 2000.

The Annual Inter-Collegiate Cricket Tournament for Professional Colleges within the Kerala University was also a regular feature. Law Fest, the cultural and arts meet of law colleges of Kerala was held thrice in the State during the later part of 1980s and first half of 1990s and the Academy was in the forefront in promoting such cultural and academic events.

‘Excel-1992’, the ‘All Kerala Professional Colleges Cultural Meet’ conducted by the Academy under the auspices of the LACULT (Law Academy Cultural Association) was held from 30-09-1992 to 03-10-1992. It was unique for several reasons. Students from almost all the Medical Colleges, Engineering Colleges, Dental Colleges, Ayurvedic Colleges, Homeo Colleges, Pharmacy Colleges, Nursing Colleges and Law Colleges, participated in the cultural event, making it a grand success with wide and large participation of almost all professional colleges in the State. The cultural event was inaugurated jointly by the Vice-Chancellors of all the five Universities then existing in Kerala. The prizes of the cultural event were distributed by E.M.S. Nampoothiripad, the first Chief Minister of Kerala in the valedictory function in the presence of the then comedy superstar Jagadish and several other personalities. The Trivandrum Government Medical College came first in the cultural event.

‘LA-STRIDES-91’ the first and only Inter-Law Colleges Sports Meet of Kerala was held by the LASPORTS (Law Academy Sports Association) of the Academy in 1991. At that time there were only four Law Colleges in existence in Kerala, namely the Government Law Colleges at Trivandrum, Ernakulam and Calicut and the Academy. All the four law colleges participated in a big way in the event making it a grand success. The sports event was inaugurated by Pandalam Sudhakaran, the then Sport Minister of Kerala who also saluted the march past of the teams. The teams competed in almost all the events including athletics, marathon etc, and games like Cricket, Football, Basketball, Table Tennis, Shuttle badminton, Volley ball etc. The glamour event was football, which was comfortably won by Government Law College, Calicut. In the final tally Government Law College, Calicut, came first in the Law Colleges sports meet ‘LA-STRIDES-91’ followed by the Academy in the second position and the Government Law Colleges of Thiruvananthapuram and Ernakulam in the third and fourth positions respectively.

Cultural rights including ghazal nights and ganamelas by the students of Academy are a regular feature in the campus which gave the students the opportunity to showcase their talents. The Academy also has its own choir team which welcomed the audience in major functions with welcome songs. There is also a gamamela (music) troupe in the campus.
